Artificial Intelligence builds on decades of academic scientific research, and now academia is turning its attention to understanding the societal impact of AI. A recent symposium at Columbia University brought together professors from a range of disciplines to discuss how AI might affect the future of public discourse. As Columbia President Minouche Shafik said, “There needs to be a voice for the public good. And I think universities can play a very big role.”
